Tarana Cooler Backpack

Buy on Target

For years I have searched for the perfect "medical keto" backpack. I needed something that was part cooler, part backpack with lots of pockets for storage. I LOVE this bag and it's the perfect size for day trips, outdoor adventures or just running errands with your keto kid. Gone are the days of having to carry around a backpack (aka medical supply bag) and a lunch bag. Run, don't walk, to grab one of these.

Pros:
-Bottom is an easy to clean 12qt cooler (we can fit roughly 2 to 3 keto meals plus ice packs and drinks)
-Top is an expandable mesh compartment with drawstring closure
-Cushioned, comfortable straps
-Two water bottle compartments
-Easy clean exterior material

Cons:
-Since I always have my son's medical supplies with me but not always a meal the bag becomes top heavy and falls over a lot when the cooler is empty.

Ryan & Rose 10ml Syringes

Buy on Amazon

If your child is already taking medication or supplements on a require basis then you know how frustrating it is to have to pour the second half of the bottle into a medicine cup then syringe your dose. Well, Ryan & Rose have solved all your syringe woes.

Pros:
-Syringes are long enough to reach the bottom
-Marked with both ml and tsp
-Have a lasting ink

Cons:
-None, there great!

Rechargeable Kitchen Scale with Trays

Buy on Amazon

Priority one..... get yourself a reliable food scale. Get two, heck get three! I have scales everywhere - three in kitchen, one in my purse, and one at his school. You're probably asking yourself why does she have three scales in her kitchen? Check out this post about My Mini Prep Station to find out. In the meantime, I recommend this small but mighty food scale.

Pros:
-Perfect size for day-to-day food prep
-Backlight LCD display
-Built-in rechargeable battery, usb cord included
-Comes with two trays that store easily for on-the-go

Cons:
-Liquids can easily leak into the LCD screen
-Not capable of high precision measurements (for example, may have difficulty registering .9 g of protein powder)

Mini Travel Mixer

Buy on Amazon

The Mini Mixer.... oh how I love the Mini Mixer! When we first started our son on the diet he refused to drink his "milk" aka watered down heavy cream. So my husband suggested we just start making whipped cream instead cause who doesn't like whipped cream, right? Standard mixers were too big so we ended up using 2oz baby food jars we had handy and would shake the cream until it became whipped. This was quite tiresome to do six times a day so I went in search of a mixer small enough to meet our needs.

Pros:
-Small enough to fit in your pocket.
-Comes with multiple, dishwasher safe attachments.
-Unbeatable price.

Cons:
-My only con is that I have had to purchased a few of these over the years (just like scales, I keep them everywhere). The motor on one or two of them didn't last long while others I've had for two years or more. I probably could have reached out to the company for a replacement but the price was so low I just reordered!

Silicone Baking Cups

Buy on Amazon

Silicone is this Keto Mama's best friend. These standard size baking cups are great for weighing out ingredients on your scale, cooking, baking, storing meals, reheating food and more. Additionally, Keto baked goods can be on the more delicate or crumbly side. Standard metal baking trays can be a hassle when trying to remove your baked goods and paper muffin cups are not eco-friendly. This is a top 3 must-have in my kitchen!

Pros:
-Your new food prep bestie.
-Oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe.
-Stackable and easy to store.
-Non-stick and eco-friendly.

Cons:
-They have a tendency to disappear because sometimes people don't realize they are reusable. :)

Being able to easily number or label meals is key to staying organized when food prepping. We use washi tape to help label meals for school, for overnights with the grandparents and to label/date batch recipes for the freezer.

Pros:
-Stays put - will not fall off due to temperature changes like being in the freezer, a cooler or even the dishwasher.
-Can be used over and over without leaving a sticky residue.
-Permanent ink will not bleed.

Cons:
-None!

NutriBullet Baby Complete Food-Making System

Motor base, batch bowl, storage containers with a date dial to track freshness, 12 ounce silicone tray.

Buy on Amazon

We use our 2oz jars everyday with almost every meal. We had a number of Magic Bullet jars that were handed down from a family member when our son was an infant. While I don't see our particular brand for sale much anymore NutriBullet has an identical line of products. I cannot speak specifically for this brand or product (thou highly rated on Amazon) but more so to the convenience and versatility of those 2 oz jars. We love using them for food prep, making small "milk" drinks on the go and they are the perfect size for making mess-free whipped cream using the Mini Mixer. As for the other components I can literally think of a millions ways I could use them and even as I'm writing this I am thinking about purchasing the whole set!

Pros:
-Great for traveling and food prep.
-Pairs perfectly with our favorite Mini Mixer.
-Freezer and dishwasher safe.
-Tight seal to avoid leaks.

Cons:
-A higher price point, so a bit more of an investment.
-Only sold as a set, cannot readily find the jars sold separately anymore.

Stainless Steel Food Storage with Lids

Buy on Amazon

It took a lot of trial and error before finding the PERFECT containers for my son to bring to school. I purchased three of these 30oz containers with a goal to fit everything in one container to make school meals simple and seamless. They are also my go-to container for outings and traveling. Check back soon for my post about how we pack these containers for school and which other products we pair it with.

Pros:
-Sturdy, long lasting materials.
-Clear lid to identify meals without opening.
-Dishwasher safe, BPA free and eco-friendly.

Cons:
-A higher price point, so again, more of an investment - but worth it!

This is a wonderful book written by Brandon Kopp, a former Keto Kid to help explain what it means to be a child with epilepsy on the Ketogenic diet. I highly recommend this book to both parents that are getting ready to start the diet and parents that are currently using Keto as a form of dietary therapy. For parents just starting the diet this can help your child understand what it means to be a Keto Kid. And for all children on the diet it can provide comfort that they are not alone in their journey.

Pros:
-Explains epilepsy and the Keto diet in a way that is understandable to young children.
-Reasonably priced.
-All profits from sales of this book are being donated to support The Charlie Foundation, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Matthew's Friends.

Cons:
-None

The Hydro Flask Tote is the perfect size for sending William's meals, drinks and other necessities to school. We also love using this cooler bag for everything from packing him up for a day at the beach to an overnight at the hospital.

Pros:
-Waterproof, insulated and collapsable.
-Easy to clean.
-Exterior pocket for additional storage.
-Extremely durable and comfortable to carry.

Cons:
-When considering this as a school 'lunch bag' the price could be a deterrence. But again, ours travels with us where ever our son goes so it's been well worth the cost for us. I see these bags on sale all the time either on Amazon or in other big box stores so I do recommend shopping around a bit to see if you can grab it at a discount!
